Archives Purpose:

From early recordings on vinyl records in 1947 to today, audio recording of special events has helped to preserve our history. Unfortunatly, Vinyl records get scratched and tapes (reel to reel, cassette, etc) have a limited life and become unusable or lost and with each one lost, we lose a part of our history.

The goal of the District 30 Archives Committee is to collect and preserve these pieces of our past through digital recordings of longtime members of our district as well as re-recording audio tapes of the past. Old meetinglists, flyers, photos, newspaper articles... almost anything pertaining to our history in District 30 can be digitized and preserved for sharing with other members or districts without loss or damage to the original article.

The Audio Archives Project:

District 30 Archives has undertaken to preserve as many old audio recordings as possible in order to help preserve our heritage. To assist in this project we are asking members to dig through their artifacts of years gone by to look for anything that may be of assistance to this project (speak to your sponsors as well).
Audio recordings of special meetings or events has always been of importance to our fellowship and often members acquire tapes and memorabilia of these events. Unfortunately, as time goes by these items are often set aside and forgotten. Recordings of events often get put in a shoebox and pushed to the back of the closet.
Tape recordings (cassette, reel to reel, eight track, etc.) are composed of a magnetic oxide which over time deteriorates and can render the tape useless regardless of the way they are stored. In other words, even if great care is taken to store a tape, you may be doing more damage by letting it sit. Tapes will wear out from use or just breakdown with age since they have a limited life span – neither is a desirable option. We have the ability to digitize any audio format as good as the original and preserve the digital copy for generations to come. Additional copies of the digital recording can be quickly made on CD or DVD for sharing with others without any further deterioration to the original. The original tape can either be returned to the owner or retired as an artifact to the archives collection.
To date we have collected a few 25 and 30 year medallions of current members, a few medallions recorded in the 70’s, the 50th anniversary of the Cobourg Group with Father Pete speaking, as well as a few ‘special interest’ events such as speakers from the 38th Annual Founders Day in 1973 in Akron taken from reel to reel tape. In addition we are doing digital recordings of many of our longtime members which are being retained in our archives. A listing of recordings is available online (see above) and copies are available to interested members.
Please assist us in this project by searching through your own collections and talking with other members who may have something of interest to the archives project.
